I teach on a pyramid style. It is necessary for a child to have a very well defined broad base of early skills to build upon. Any child having difficulty in 3rd grade on in reading or math must remediate the early skills to make progress towards the skills needed to advance to the next grade. I have used groupings/workshops in my classroom to both teach the lacking skills and to demonstrate to students why they are important and show how they support the grade skills being taught. Hands-on and interesting projects help to keep children interested in those basic skills.
I did substitute work January-June 1992 September 1992 taught Kindergarden at New York City Schools. I have a M.ED in Educational Psychology with experience teaching and tutoring children K-5. I worked for several years tutoring and substitute teaching elementary school age children, including those with learning disabiities. I have spent a year teaching English Conversation skills to adults in Japan.
