A Little Bit About Me...

Hi! My name is Monica, and I am a recent graduate from the University of Oregon. I have both a Bachelor's degree in Japanese and Psychology. I have traveled to Japan for several months at a time and have taught English to elementary age Japanese children as well. I also have years of tutoring experience at the University of Oregon. While working on my PhD. I was a graduate teaching fellow for the Dept. of Ed. Teacher-Scholar program. I supervised undergraduates in organic chemistry labs, graded exams, led recitation sections and graded homework for both organic and general chemistry lecture courses. I developed and presented a chemistry class for HP technicians, and was the HP Education Liaison for the University of Oregon. As an undergraduate at the University of Montana – Billings I was a teaching assistant in the general and organic chemistry labs and tutored both chemistry and physics at the college level. I graduated with my master's three years ago, so I haven't had any actual teaching, but I have tutored for the community college where I live. I tutored essay writing and some math. I was also certified as a tutor through our community college. In college I taught certain subjects, but just for part of certain classes. I am presently tutoring on line also.
As an older student I was very driven to achieve a high level of excellence in my education, hardly ever missing a class. I earned my bachelor's degree from Oregon State University, taking mainly writing and literature. I have over 20 years experience in training individuals in materials related to their employment & career preparation. I've also worked as a CASA worker in Idaho and had to prepare reports for the courts/judges review to determine placement of at risk cildren. I was a career information counselor for Marsing High School, Idaho, for grades 7th through 12th. I've also spent many years writing research papers, business correspondence, business plans, articles for newspapers as a writer, editor and publisher, both as an employee, owner and contract writer and the mother of an autistic child.

The voyage of deepening a child’s enthusiasm to write and read well is so delightful and satisfying! This revelation didn’t come in my writing courses in high school or college but when I taught my four children to read and write. Now that they’re all in college or graduated from college, I once again became available for tutoring. Several college and university students can attest that with my tutoring their writing has become stronger and their grades have risen. Meanwhile, I continued structured writing in the form of manuals, educational brochures and Power Point presentations for doctor offices.
