I am about to complete my first year at IU School of Dentistry. I completed my B.S. in Biology at IPFW with a 4.0 GPA and love learning! Science is my specialty but I enjoy other subjects as well. I have experience so far tutoring college-level genetics, both high school and college-level statistics, assisting a student getting her GED online, as well as teaching organic and general chemistry to a student getting ready to take the DAT. My comments on tutoring Algebra : I scored a 100% on the NY Algebra Regents. I homeschooled my two daughters and they both passed the Algebra ECAalmost at the Pass Plus range. I am currently homeschholing my son in Algebra 1. I love math and love solving for the unknown quantity. I was certified in Elementary Education (K-8th grade) and Special Education (K-12th grade) and taught for 10 years for both regular and special ed. students up to 8th grade.

Have tutored peers and younger students starting in high school and continuing throughout my undergraduate. Fundamental understanding is what is most important. Just knowing which equation to use for a certain type of problem will not help a student succeed in future courses. Students should also know that repetition is the best way to master a skill.

A Little Bit About Me...

My second career choice was education, but I went with accounting instead. I have always found good luck with explaining how to do something by using examples. As I continue further in my career, this comes easier and easier. Problem solving techniques are an important tool to teach as these skills help children methodically figure answers out.
My volunteering began in 1993 when I was an officer at the Indiana University Bloomington chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the honorary accounting society. I still remember going to the Boys and Girls Club to tutor each week. When I got the opportunity to work with the Junior Achievement organization while working in Butler, I jumped for joy. Micro welding had to teach others how to set machines and run them. I built parts which went to the moon, had to teach the others how they were made. Owned an upholstery business and taught people how to sew, cut, and hang the materials on the furniture. I helped my sons and later my granddaughters with home work.
