I have several years experience teaching, tutoring, mentoring, training and coaching children and adults from birth to age 85 in several various subjects and fields. I have my BS in Early Childhood Education as well as Special Education and have tremendous experience with children and adults with all types of disabilities, learning impairments and delays both physical and emotional in addition to academic. In addition to being a teacher, I am also a personal trainer, nutrition coach and recovery coach for girls and woman battling eating disorders. After completing my graduate program and student teaching at Latham Ridge Elementary School, I became an aide within the same building. This position lent itself to filling in maternity years the following year. I was then hired as a sixth grade teacher and have been in that position since that time. At this point, I teach mathematics, reading, and writing. All of the students with special needs are placed into my classroom each year. In addition to classroom teaching, I have taught several students once they have graduated into the middle school.

The best teaching style in my opinion, explains how to research, plan and write essays, gives students time to practice these skills in class, and ensures students get feedback on how well they have done on each sub-skill. Students learn skills by using them in a realistic, subject-specific context, and in a combined way. So they might use other skills taught before such as note taking, highlighting, all in context. The purpose of the skills are stressed, students are taught not just what to do and how, but also why.
