I like to discover what my students already know about the topic and to expose any misconceptions. Brainstorming activities work well for me. I like to help define the topic in common terms, not the classic dictionary method. I use presentation, discussion, videos and hands on activities. Most of what I do is inquiry based.

A Little Bit About Me...

Most Math books recommend teaching for about half the class and then let students work some problems in class. I find this works well, it allows questions and the class becomes interactive. I encourge questions while I am introducing a subject and find it gives me a chance to use different examples to get a poinnt across. Any assignments I give outside the classroom can be addressed in the next class.
I started teaching right out of college. Taught high school and college part time for 6 years. Left teaching for the computer business where I worked for 36 years. Retired from HP in 2001. Went back to teaching. I taught at Mount Royal Academy in Sunapee, NH for 7 years. I taught College Algebra and Pre-Calculus at River Valley Community College i Keene, presently as an Adjunct faculty member.

My teaching experience spans college freshmen physics to middle school math. I converted to education after 20 years as a materials engineer in a number of industrial manufacturing companies. I have completed a state certified certificate program and did my student teaching in physics at a local high school.
