Immersed in the culture of the Deaf for 15 years, I have come to realize that American Sign Language is the most efficient, concise language; this is primarily due to the use of visual space, body language, eye gaze and the signs themselves. Students may find learning sign language challenging until the elements of the language noted above are more deeply understood. The best way to comprehend the rules and grammar of this language, I have discovered, is through fun activities, story telling and conversation.
