Latin is one of my top subjects! I have four semesters of college Latin and a B.A. in Classics.

While pursuing a double degree from the University at Buffalo and working part-time, I worked in peer tutoring groups for Latin and writing. I have experience proof reading papers and correcting grammar. My four semesters of college Latin have given me a understanding of English language origins and modern usages. Latin also helps me to use punctuation and grammar correctly and effectively. I am well versed in aspects of earth science and geology due to my interest in geology at the University at Buffalo. While there I completed two full semesters of geology lab and lecture.

I offer students a patient listening ear so I can encourage their strengths and understand their weaknesses. In college, I tutored kids K-5 on primarily their reading skills. However, I also asked them if they needed any help with any other subject and what material was covered. From this I would put together study outlines from their notes and textbook. This allowed me to know ahead of time what should be emphasized. Also, when teaching a biology field to a more mature individual, I find that reading up on the material actually emphasizes my passion for the field. There also have been times I have made up mnemonics for certain biology topics, whether it is a rhyme, story, or parody of a song. I find that it makes learning the material easier and more enjoyable. My friends always have enjoyed them as the mnemonics always can create a laugh.

Teaching is a skill that requires flexibility. As a college student, I have tried many different studying techniques and have succeeded in finding one suitable for my style. Teaching requires different styles and techniques until one is successful. I have observed that the "fun facts" taught by professors are what are most remember able.
