I have 25 years experience in teaching from grades 6 through college; public schools; private schools; community college. My masters degree is in history. I have written one government text, several chapters of high school history texts, and economics teacher materials while working for Glencoe/ McGraw-Hill publishing. I want you to be successful in learning!

My teaching style is mainly dependant on the person that I am tutoring. If a student needs to take a slower process to learn than I am adaptable to that. The same is true for someone who has a little faster pace. I am flexible.
I have experience with teaching adults how to read at my local literacy organization. Also, I have tutored children with Reading and Math. I was a substitute teacher for students from Pre Kindergarten through High School with different subjects and disciplines. I currently tutor a 9 year old and a 13 year old, both for reading and writing. I've taken early childhood education courses before, and worked hands on in a preschool, in which I put together lesson plans and taught to the class. I'm also the oldest of five, and grew up with a big family. My teaching methods are rather basic. I respect the student, and I encourage the student. I have found that reward goes much farther than ridicule or punishment when motivating a student to believe in themselves, and thus excel. I also teach the importance of information. What I mean by that, is that I teach the student why the information they are learning is relevant to the real world, I don't teach to a test. Through my experience with the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, I was expected to demonstrate a high level of expertise in my chosen field.
