I taught 7th grade English for one year and 5th grade general education for three years. Prior to teaching, I tutored writing and study skills in our university acedemic skills department. I have also tutuored adults learning English as a second language and adults learning to read. Additionally, I have worked at after school programs, homeschooled a student who could not attend school for 3 months because of a brain injury, and volunteered as a reading partner for an elementary school student for three years. As a graduate student in Evolutionary Biology at Texas A&M University, I worked as a teaching assistant in undergraduate ecology and zoology labs. I found this experience to be very rewarding and went on to pursue a MA in Instruction. Since completing both graduate degrees in 2008, I have been teaching undergraduate biology at Winona State University.
