A Little Bit About Me...

Although instructors/tutors have a preferred teaching style, I will often mix in some elements of other styles. If I wish to take a more open approach to my teaching, I include a blend of various styles which is very effective. Teacher-centered, where the teacher is expert and authority in presenting information works well with students who need little direction from the instructor, and/or those who accept responsibility for their own learning. While in other situations, I will take a learner-centered approach thus viewing my role as more of a facilitator of student learning.
In 1999-2000, I provided highly individualized, one-on-one instruction in the client's homes while working with a local tutoring company. I am an experienced educator and state certified instructor with impeccable credentials and a heartfelt enthusiasm for teaching. More recently, I have tutored adults partici ... read more

My comments on tutoring Chess : Will need to brush up myself, so we'll learn together!

One on One is the ideal method for me as it allows time dedicated to the tutored. It makes them feel special and appreciated and also allows time for coaching and motivation.
My experience in Tutoring is a bit fleeting only having done it in odds and ends; non-professionally at best, but as I see progress in others, it inspires ME to grow. Also knowing that I have helped in some small part further encourages me to help out more. I don't have any track record to speak of but I what I hope to provide for those under my wing is a chance to believe, as motivator Les Brown would say, "It's Possible that I can succeed!" THAT'S what students REALLY need to know.

As part of my lifelong love of learning and teaching, I began tutoring when I was just fourteen years old. While in high school, I usually tutored math (mostly algebra, geometry, and trigonometry) and general science. Once I moved to college, I began to work with middle school as well as high school students again in mostly math and science. However, I have a BA in politics and history; therefore I am extremely confident in many liberal arts subjects. I have also earned an MBA which helped to hone my grammatical and communication skills. I am currently an on-call teacher for two local school districts. I teach all levels, all subjects.
I love to teach. I have experience with 5-50 years old and, if pressed, could not name a favorite group. I believe that everyone can learn; some of us just process information in different ways. As a tutor it is my job to discover how a student proc ... read more

As an undergrad I attended Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, a school well-known for its academic excellence, where I studied Christian Education under a group of highly talented professors. While this degree was not a typical teaching degree, it incorporated a significant amount of educational theory, communication skills, and developmental psychology which I have used as a mentor, Sunday school teacher, and tutor. I then attended Fuller Theological Seminary as a master’s student where I studied theology and youth ministry. This program allowed me to further study the developmental issues connected with adolescents, as well as increase my writing and critical thinking skills through the study of theology, philosophy, and history. I have worked with middle school and high school students in a church setting for 9 years. I began tutoring last year, working with elementary and Jr. ... read more

I love children and believe that every child can learn. In my classroom, I provided a multitude of diverse learning experiences for my students - from experimentation to cooperative learning. I support the multiple intelligences theory and always attempted to accommodate students' various learning needs. For example, when finishing a novel, students were given options for completing a book project: traditional book report, building a model of a favorite scene and presenting it to the class, creating a scrapbook for a main character and presenting it, etc. I held high standards for my students but always provided the tools for them to achieve those standards.
After earning my bachelor's degree in History and Political Science, I went on to complete the teacher's certification program through the University of Phoenix. I began teaching middle school Language Arts, Reading, Writi ... read more

I have taught nine years of elementary school. I was certified in AZ, but let it lapse. I have recently re-submitted my application. During my teaching career, I have been a mentor for two student teachers for ASU. I have been a chairperson, tutor, coach, etc.
Teaching is my passion. I love working with students and feel it is an honor to be apart of their lives. Making a difference is what keeps it enjoyable for me. I am a very easy going person. I love working with other teachers on projects. I would describe my teaching style as a traditional approach with technology thrown in. I love using technology in as many lessons as I can.

From my previous teaching experience gained in college I believe that there is a delicate process, that requires patience and respect in teaching students. I am easy going and understandable and always provide encouragement. I believe in a hands on approach to teaching, which can make learning more fun for the students. My only hope is to make a difference for every student.
My college experience and training has allowed me to get excellent insight into both of my majors. I have learned the language and culture of not only Germany but also ancient cultures. My various challenges along the way pushed me to achieve higher goals and led me to the completion of my two bachelor degrees, BA in German Studies and BA in Classical Civilization. From my anthropology classes I gained my experience in teaching freshmen, juniors and seniors from diverse backgrounds. I firmly believe i can tut ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

After completing my college degree I went in to the finance world and then into Information Technologies. This allowed me exposure to a wide variety of skills and people. Along the way I have tutored students in English and some rudimentary math. Currently I am working towards my teaching certification and the most recent teaching experience I have had is teaching beginning English to ESL students at a local high school. Between the extensive papers I have written in college and graduate school, and the assignments I have graded as a teacher, my grammatical and editing skills are extensive.
I have always enjoyed teaching, whether it is to children or to adults. My approach has always been to keep a fun atmosphere while establishing control over the class; we can have fun but I am in charge and I will let you know when the line has been crossed. This kind of atmosphere, in my o ... read more

I have 8 years teaching experience with university level statistics, operations management, and algebra. 6 years teaching vocational level computer applications. 10 years US Navy instructor teaching aircraft maintenance systems and safety.
