A teacher never stops teaching, and never ceases learning.

I have to first find the learning style of the student. As a teacher, I find that students have diverse ways of learning and that I must adapt my teaching style to their needs. For instance, I have some students who are auditory learners and sometimes retain information more if information is read orally to them. Some students must have a generous amount of explanation as to the content of what he or she is reading while otheers require many visual cues to accompany their learning. It really depends upon the student.

I am here to help students to become better writers!

I have a calm teaching style and approach. My goal is to help clear confusion for students by teaching them several easy steps to keep in mind while writing.
I have helped many of my friends and other students become better writers throughout and beyond my college career. I have seen all of these students gain good grades for their work, and they also became better writers through the process. Writing papers is one of the few things I found easy in college. I enjoyed writing and the process so much that I majored in the subject. I have written way too many ten- twenty page papers in my life, struggled to see the project come to a close, and rejoice in happiness after the grade was posted/ returned. Writing papers and teaching others how to do so is my passion. It takes time and a lot of effort, but the end result is worth the hard work. I have been writing and helping others becom ... read more

I enjoy helping anyone become a better writer! I strive to help people know that the first time they write an essay, a letter or a speech that it won't always come out perfect. From the best-selling novelist to the high school student who lacks confidence to let others read what they've written, all writers need encouragement and peer editing. I enjoy helping others to edit their own work and giving simple tips and advice I've gained through years of editing and writing. I believe anyone can become a better writer no matter how much they think that they lack the "writing genes."
Over the years I have become a diligent student of the college essay, journalism and non-fiction writing. As a literature major, I was trained how to analyze stories and ideas through discussion and then how to put ideas into written form. As a creative writing minor I was trained how to edit sentences ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am an experienced teacher, tutor, and study skills coach who believes in the giftedness of each and every child and person. Every child is exceptional and deserves to know there are no failures. I've had the joy of working over 25 years in hospitals, public schools, private schools, home school programs and in private work with children and young adults. My experience over the years has taught me that the joy of teaching is skillfully, creatively and artistically/playfully opening potentials of learning with children, guiding them as they experience becoming more confident, trusting themselves, and appreciating their unique talents, strengths, and skills.
My basic teaching style is to get to know the child and his or her strengths, create a loving and safe space where he or she can experience self expression, exploration, making choices, problem solving, being aware of ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I hold B.A. and M.A. degrees in English from Wake Forest University. My 4 years in the WFU Writing Center as a Writing Instructor developed my capacity to assess student needs and tailor approaches to teaching writing. In this role, I was responsible for overseeing the writing process. I taught a wide variety of students from advanced doctoral candidates to developing writers, including those with learning disabilities and hearing impairments. I have also taught AP English. For the past 10 years, I have been an independent tutor for middle, high school, and college students and have specialized in college application essays.
As a writing instructor, I aspire to teach students to want to learn to write, because when students want to write, they learn to write. I believe the teacher is not the sage on the stage, but rather, the guide on the side. One of my primary goals is to empowe ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I am presently studying at the University of South Carolina pursuing a career in English, in addition to applying to Law School. I have concentrated my efforts in the areas of literature and compostion, with several hours spent tutoring other students who experience difficulties with these subjects. I have written numerous papers and have read extensive literature covering many genres which allows to be a better tutor.
With the competitive demands of our youth and the need to excell, I know the presssure placed on kids today to compete on so many different levels is significant. Pressure causes much anxiety and undue stress, making it difficult for both the children and their parents. As a young man, I am still continuing my education to pursue additional degrees in English and then on to Law School. I will look for ways to motivate and make learning fun. More About This Tutor...

I have been a classroom teacher for the past four years in both elementary and middle school. Both of my parents are educators, so I spent a great deal of time tutoring and volunteering in schools prior to my teaching career. I also have a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University. My strengths are in the areas of language arts, reading, and social sciences.
I like to observe children to determine what learning styles best fit their personalities and strengths. I believe in the capabilities of all children, when their teachers find the proper ways to motivate and support their learning. I find that building a trusting relationship in which students feel comfortable asking questions and thinking critically are best for making gains.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have noticed over the years that many students can identify their specific needs when it comes to learning. I see myself as a facilitator in helping students to learn while keeping in mind the different learning styles: visual, aural, kinesthetic. I combine discipline with a sense of humor (which I think is essential especially when students become anxious about a new class or a subject in which they have difficulty). I act as a guide as well as provider of information to students. At the same time, I try my best to listen to or watch the body language of all of my students in order to best accommodate their needs.
I have taught French at the middle and high school levels for ten years. During this time I had the experience of teaching 7th through 12th grade French courses. Most recently, I taught ESL to Korean and Chinese students in order to support their 9th and 10th grade En ... read more
