My comments on tutoring Life Science : 2 bachelor of science degrees and a land surveyor's license

associates in science degree from Connors State (Warner, OK) 1993 BS degree in teaching from Arkansas State University-1996 BS degree in Land Surveying & Information Systems from the University of Arkansas (LR)1998 "Ike Tomlinson" award in 1994 (highest grade point average for atheletes) Sun Belt Conference player of the week in 1994
my teaching style depends upon how that person learns. so many times you have young people that have very bright minds, but maybe they are a "visual" learners. in other words, they have to see it a certain way. i had teachers that i really loved and did well, but there were others that taught the same subject and i couldn't get anything out of the class.

A Little Bit About Me...

I studied many different theories of learning while in psychology and fundamentally understand what it means to be a teacher. My teaching style allows the student to learn the material as independently as possible and improve their critical thinking skills, by asking the right type of questions and finding the student's best learning style. I am very patient and am willing to put forth the effort to make sure the student improves during our session.
I graduated from the University of Central Arkansas with a double major in Psychology and Philosophy. I also received a minor in Interdisciplinary studies through the Honor's College at UCA. I wrote several different research papers in Psychology, excelled in critical thinking and symbolic logic courses in philosophy, and also completed an undergraduate thesis through the Honor's college. I would be able to improve any child's critical ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I received my BS in Environmental science in 2007 and minored in chemistry.Environmental science- biology track requires to have numerous biology courses. I have had good experience teaching and tutoring students and my friends in mathematics, biology, chemistry and even college level physics. In my graduate studies (2008-2010), I was assigned to teach sections of biology labs to undergraduate students at UCA.
I have passion about teaching. I like to share my knowledge with other people and I believe it could be achieved by efficient communication.I am patient and humerous at times. When I teach I try to relate questions in the book to real world problems by giving numerous examples. I stronlgy believe that learning can be made easier if we teach students in a way that they enjoy it and apply to the real world situtations. I do not hesitate to give funny examples and logics so as ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love watching children's eyes light up from learning and this is what I strive for with every teaching moment. I know that children become discouraged when they do not acquire the skills other students seem to master almost immediately. I know that parents become equally discouraged when they want their child to succeed but do not know how to help them do so. Many students need more time, attention, and hands on experiences in order to be successful. I desire for all students to find the love of learning because they find they can be successful.
As a single mom raising four children, I received my degree in Elementary Education and have taught one year as a preschool teacher of children birth through five years with disabilities, seven years as a first grade teacher, and 13 years of students 6th through 8th grade. I enjoy working with all levels of students and my greatest des ... read more

I have been involved in a lot of activities and feel the best way to teach is to relate to the student. As a tutor, I have worked with many different types of students and I found a way to relate the information to something they were interested in. I believe all students are capable of learning the material; it just has to be presented in a way they understand.
I received my BS degree in 2007 in pre-medicine. I majored in pre-professional zoology and I have a minor in biochemistry. I also worked at the Talent Development Center as a tutor for biology, botany, chemistry and biochemistry. I have a strong background in all science courses and maintained a 3.87 GPA throughout college.

A Little Bit About Me...

Coming from a smaller school, I understand the importance of one on one communication and teaching. Throughout middle and high school I tutored many of my classmates and friends, and continued to do so with whoever needed help during my college career at Ozarka. After taking Writing courses at UCA, I began to see how that one on one quality becomes lost in a larger school, so I began offering help to whoever appeared to need it. My writing classes have strengthened my grammar and vocabulary skills, and I have taken a Teaching Creative Writing class, all helping me to understand the value of good communication and how to apply it.
First and foremost, I understand that no two children learn the same. I believe many children struggle in a learning environment simply because they are not comfortable with it. I excel at personal communication, and make it my first goal to find out h ... read more

More About This Tutor...

My teaching style is a simple one: I use kindness with firmness and always attach a fun and tactile activity to make the learning memorable. My own learning style is more visual and hands-on, but I know that some children can learn by repetition and memorization, and if that's what works, then I'll adjust to fit that particular child's needs. I also use a reward system when agreed upon by the parent for when the child reaches small goals. I believe baby steps are what build confidence.
As a 22 year veteran teacher and now a Children's Director of Ministry, I have worked in most all capacities with children and feel that God gave me this gift. I feel that all children learn differently and at their own pace and therefore learning should be adjusted to fit their needs. I feel that even the most "boring" subjects can be made fun and I have several techniques that I use to accomplish ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My first priorty to assist students in learning is developing a positive relationship with them, and then try to identify their strengths and weaknesses. From that point I can then begin to provide assistance and correction. One of the secrets or truths to student achievement is building their confidence and establishing high self-esteem traits toward achievement in that particular subject area.
I began my educational goals as a medical student, but later was advised that I should branch off into teaching and instructional applications by undergraduate and graduate professors.I'm so glad I took their advice because I really enjoy teaching and observing growth and development in my students. My teaching experience include 15.5 years of teaching biology, chemistry, environmental science, earth science, physical science, and algebra I and II. A Little Bit About Me...

During the last twelve years I have worked within the public school system in both Arkansas and Florida. Between 1998 and 2000 I worked as a substitute for the Cabot School District. Between the years of 2000 and 2005 I worked with the Special Education teacher at Landmark Elementary in Little Rock, AR to ensure student achievement. In 2005 I moved to Ocala, FL and worked for the Hammett L. Bowen Elementary until June 2010. While in the district I was able to complete my ESOL certification as well as work with special education students in a full inclusion setting. Though I am certified to teach all subjects, my fields of expertise are in the areas of math, science, and language arts.
I love to teach children and find it both a challenge as well as an inspiration. When teaching I find it necessary to determine the learning styles of each student as well as areas of interest. ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

While enrolled in the teacher certification program with Hendrix College, I mentored/tutored an eighth grader in various subjects. I enjoyed the one-on-one experience thoroughly and quickly returned to tutoring at Arkansas School for the Blind. During my three years of employment with ASB, I improved ACTAAP reading scores of two students with reading/learning impairments after one year of tutoring sessions from Below Basic to Basic. I have tutored students in all levels of reading and literature, basic math, algebra, and the sciences.
I have a strong constructivist teaching style: I do my best to connect a student's prior knowledge and experiences to new knowledge in order to build on his or her experience, thereby creating a foundation for intrinsic learning. My reading lessons are technically rigorous, but are supplemented with frequent discussion to check for understanding. ... read more
