More About This Tutor...

My teaching style reflects the way I learn best. I find that hands on learning is by far the most effective, a fun educational memory is much easier to recall than a set of hard facts.
I am a recent graduate from SUNY ESF with a passion for education. I am proficient in many fields of science, ranging from earth science to limnology. Although I've never professionally tutored, I have experience teaching middle school groups about aquatic entomology and forest ecology at Clark's Reservation. I have taken several classes where I learned to design lesson plans and how to properly communicate with varying age groups.

My comments on tutoring Science : I am a total science nerd, a graduate with a bachelor's degree in biological sciences - and who better to impart the glories of science onto a student's mind? It's an incredibly intriguing subject that can be a lot easier to understand than many people realize. Feel free to contact me if you would like help improving your comprehension of any science topic!

For tutoring, I prefer face-to-face lessons, because it makes it easier for me to gauge how well the student is understanding the material. I try to explain concepts in a variety of ways to find out how the student learns best, whether through repetition, example, metaphor, application... whatever works! I have tutored kids with all kinds of needs and a few with pretty short attention spans :) For piano lessons, I would use the Alfred library of teaching materials, as that is how I was taught and it works wonders on new learners! In addition to reading music, I would focus on performance techniques and theory as well.
Hello everyone! I am available for tutoring as well as teaching music lessons. I have experience tutoring students who may need more time to process information than is provided in a classroom setting in all subjects, and I'm great when it comes to communicatin ... read more

I am a patient person who is used to tutoring students as that is what homeschooling is. I believe in learning by doing, experiential education. Many students think that they can't do something that is hard, but when it is broken down into small pieces, they find that it is not as difficult as they thought. I believe that all children should be allowed to learn at their own pace. "Getting things done is not always what is most important. There is value in allowing others to learn, even if the task is not accomplished as quickly, efficiently or effectively." -- R.D. Clyde
I attended Houghton College for 2 1/2 years. Then I went to NCCC and earned an AS, then transferred to Charter Oak State College. They took all the credits I had earned as a student at both schools, allowed me to define my degree, told me which additional credits I needed and granted my degree. I have homescho ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I recognize the importance of a dynamic teaching style- one that adjusts depending on both the subject matter and the student. I am very experienced with addressing procrastination and anxiety. A patient, encouraging, and directed atmosphere is a great aid in learning. Tutoring should take away the distractions of the classroom to enable the student to learn one-on-one, to solidify what is taught in school. I have the tools to help your child succeed, and would love to share in their academic successes.
As a recent graduate of the Rutgers-Newark University Honors College, I hold a B.A. in Biology and plan to continue my education in the future. As a member of the Honors College I was exposed to the most rigorous English Literature and History courses, which enabled me to hone my writing skills. More About This Tutor...

I was a good High School Student, but lacked the motivation to go onto college right after graduation. At age 26, I went back to college subsequent to being laid off from my job and obtained my 2 year and then my 4 year degree. I graduated when I was 30. While in college, I tutored WIP accounting, basic accounting, math and reading. Since that time, I have held a position at a large Insurance Company. Based on my history and experiences, I believe I am a role model for the older student and to push those who are having trouble committing to "getting it done". Being a mother to 6 year old twins, I would very much like to tutor younger students that are struggling with the basics.
I prefer to let the student do the work and I will foster the thought process. All students think and learn differently, the success for each student lay in finding their unique way of ... read more

Beginning in high school I found myself driven to help children in need. Through my participation in Mercy Action, I raised money for mentally delayed children, and set up numerous barbeques for them. Later, I began tutoring a young brazilian boy in the 5th grade. He needed help with all of his studies, especially math and english. As a political science major, I have gained experienced in essay writing, grammatical skills and research methods.
Before I was able to tutor, I taught 7 year old girls cheerleading. When I began to tutor, I enjoyed being one on one with the child. I am very patient, punctual and considerate. I know children that need extra help need extra time. I find it personally rewarding to supplament a child's education. I also believe it is easier for a child to ask questions when they are one on one with an educator.

More About This Tutor...

I enjoy teaching/tutoring high school students and adults in need of support to prepare for college. I am an excellent educator and am able to adopt my teaching style based on the need of the student. If a student needs a hands on or a visual approach then I am able to adjust.
I have been a teacher for the past 20 years and have learned the best quality is compassion. As part of that compassion, a teacher must listen to each student to determine need and develop an approach of instruction according to the need. Typically I like to give a multiple intelligence survey that helps me figure out how each student thinks. This will help me to use the best teaching techniques to allow the student the greatest chance of success. I have strong High School Math knowledge and have taught Math/Science for the past seven years. As a resource room instructor I had to be well versed in all scienc ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I attended Dominican College of Blauvelt, where I began my studies as an English major with a concentration in childhood education. As an English major, I worked as a tutor in the writing center as an aide to college students. Here I would help students get their thoughts on paper in a coherent manner or provide any service they needed for their papers. I currently work as a substitute teacher for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse. I have had both positive and negative experiences, but these times provide great feedback that cannot be experienced unless in a classroom.
A teacher can be anyone, but not everyone can be a teacher. Every child has a unique learning style and it is the job of the teacher to understand this and find the best way to teach the child. I am a patient and understanding person because I once to was a student. I knew that I had certain learning styles that ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My goals for my students encompass more than simply answering questions and completing homework assignments. Although these activities are integral to teaching, what I really want to impart is the ability to solve problems, leaving my students with a valuable tool for excelling in their educational careers. Another one of my goals is to make the sciences fun and exciting. I think the most successful students are those who possess an active interest in what they are studying. If they truly find science interesting, then they will seek answers to their own questions, and learn at a rapid pace.
My educational experiences center heavily on the sciences. I have a B.A. in chemistry and biology, as well as an M.S. in organic chemistry. These degrees have given me a strong foundation in basic chemical and biological knowledge, as well as more advanced knowledge in both of these fields. Mor ... read more
