My passion is to teach, although retired, I will, always be a teacher, and that is why I want to teach. Due to the experiences I have had, I have become very proficient in my field. I will tutor or teach, by developing an individual learning plan, which begins with informal assessment, establishing, tangible learning goals, and targets implementation, and then, concludes with a final assessment to make sure benchmarks were reached. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always worked well with children because I enjoy their capacity to learn. I am drawn to students who feel they are incapable of excelling in subject areas in which they struggle. I also have a gift of working with students who have behavioral challenges and/or special needs to due to a disability. My AA in Early Childhood helped me to understand how the brain develops and how people learn and how to utilize the stages of development in educating people. My BA in Child and Family Studies has given me the ability to see each of my students wholistically and to teach them according to their future goals based upon their background and goals. Having obtained a Communications degree from college, I was quite driven to help students who faced challenges in the areas of reading/writing. Further, I had extensive experience in Title I and Reading Labs, even on the college campus where I studied. Later, I earned my Master's degree and did research to assist me in understanding the pervasive issue of a higher incidence of language difficulties faced by these students versus that realized in Math. During the past years, I have taught high school and college English courses to students who have been identified as needing assistance in Reading and writing. I have also assisted students with other subjects, such as Algebra I, II, Problems of Democracy, high school science, etc.

I match my teaching style to the learning style of each individual. My first session with the student is when I can determine whether their learning style is visual, audial, tactile, kinesthetic or a combination of these. I then write a prescription of study with the student that include several objectives and a timeline to achieve these goals. I work with the student to promote a sense of achievement and to build confidence for future learning.
