A Little Bit About Me...

I like to start tutoring students by determining what the student's strengths and weaknesses are and building a strategy from there. When a student doesn't understand a new concept, I like to go through every step of the process with them to figure out where the stumbling block is, using a variety of ways to explain the concept to assess which strategy works best for each student. Ultimately my goal is to see each student "get it" and overcome obstacles in learning math, so the student can independently understand new concepts enough to use them without much coaching.
I have 2 years experience in tutoring high-school and college-level math and computer science (programming and database design) while studying computer science in college from 1996-1998. I have spent 13 years working at Pacific Northwest National laboratory. During this time I have gained experience with several different types of chromatography systems and various mass spectrometers. I have developed several methods for sample analysis drawing on my chemistry experience. I have authorship on several peer reviewed journal articles and have written one book chapter as well.

I have always had a deep appreciation for knowledge and education. I hold a BS in Marine Science (Oceanography), through which I took many high level science and math courses. I recently completed an MS in Environmental Science and Policy from the University of South Florida, where I formulated and conducted my own research project.
