I love teaching children and working with children's choirs. I had some very fine education classes at Aquinas. I'm very intuitive with children. While you must objectively assess the childs level, you must also be intuitive. The teacher has to tap into the innate knowledge and then approach the method of teaching in the way that child can hear you. I am 47 and a mother of an 11 yr. old. I am patient and kind with children, but overall, what comes through is my whimsical, comical, spontaneous nature. Children take to it because I'm also intelligent as opposed to "clownish". I'm also fairly firm. They have to practice and I know how to motivate them for that. I have high standards for children.

A Little Bit About Me...

I began my career as a high school teacher teaching grades 9-12. My engagement with students at this level was highly satisfying; I loved teaching this age group speech and drama courses. After that I spent several years in a FT professional touring performance ensemble that performed for all ages in a variety of settings across the Midwest. Finally, for the last 15 years, I have taught a variety of college level communication and performance courses, as well as various writing classes. I help students become competent oral and written communicators. The expressive arts (e.g.,theatre and performance studies) is also a specialty. I work one-on-one with most of my students.
