As a composer and performer, with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Theory and Composition, I have always sought to teach music from the bottom up. As a master teacher, with a Master of Science Degree in Music Education, I have worked to develop my own programs and courses of study that teach to any curriculum. I have worked hard over many years to asses the needs of individual students. Firstly, I assess the learning level and learning style of the student over the first week or two. Secondly, I approach the teaching style according to those findings. Thirdly, I assess the progress of the student in relation to the teaching style and make any necessary changes in approach. This includes "Music for Little Mozarts." The upper levels offer lesson, recital, technique, theory and composition books as well as specialty titles (Christmas, etc). I specialize in homeschoolers. To make sure they don't miss the experience of a school program, our recitals may offer singing, dance, costume/drama, recitation, student compositions, etc. in addtion to piano pieces. As an early childhood teacher, I have had several opportunities to help children (school age), to do homework. I also was a tutor in high school to a boy for just Algebra, which then turned around to being all of his subjects and helping him keep on track. The hardest thing for me was that he had only lived in the U.S. for four years, and had trouble speaking English. After each session of tutoring, I would grab the Scrabble board, which encouraged him to use more words, learn new words, and have fun while doing so. I like to get to the point of certain problems, such as reading the child/student when I see them, ask them some questions about the subjects they need help in and why they need help.
