After receiving my teaching certificate in 2001, I worked with fourth and second graders in Clayton County Public Schools as a classroom teacher. For a total of six years, I taught students in grades K-5, trained teachers to use technology, and served as the webmaster. After working in Clayton County Public Schools, I worked in Dekalb County Public School System as a classroom teacher. There, I worked with fourth graders to meet Georgia Performance Standards in all subject areas. I also was the trainer and webmaster for the school. As a former graduate student of Educational Technology, and a recipient of an Ed.S. and M.Ed. in Educational Technology, I was excited about having access to tools that I had found helped students learn. A Little Bit About Me...

What I have learned working with students is that many do not learn in the same manner. I beleive in what is called top process learning. Given the student a concept and allowing them to explore the possibilities of how one arrives at such a concept has allowed deeper critical thinking and strategic planning. However, this method is not predominately taught in Georgia education system. I have found this method to be very effective. The other method is patience. Students who strugge with their academic learning usually are having other areas of difficulty which may be social learning. Having clinical training allows me to make a more accurate assessment.
During the last 10 years I have worked with all levels of students, preschool through college levels. These areas include reading, math, english, psychology, science and social studies. I am a self starter and have worked wi ... read more

As an undergraduate student I was always in the top ten percentile of my math, chemistry and biology classes, and as a result, I tutored fellow college students in those respective subjects. After earning my bachelor degree in biology, I worked as an educator at the South Carolina Aquarium where I taught interactive classes to kindergarten, middle school and high school students. I also worked for the Leadership Development Program at the College of Charleston where I co-facilitated student leadership classes. And most recently, while in graduate school I held a teaching assistant position and tutored freshman and sophomore college students in topics related to international development.

I can be helpful in math up through Algebra II, and have extensive knowledge of counseling, religious studies, writing, and have used accounting a bit in bookkeeping. I could tutor social studies up through high school because I have found such a great overlap between religion and counseling and human services. Right now I am in a class on trauma and presenting on human trafficking. I can tutor English in grammar and writing composition simply because of all the writing I have had to do for college. The quality of education that I received has inspired me to give the same quality and better. Because my students bring a wealth of different knowledge and skills, I attempt to help them use that knowledge towards the topics learned. Students learn better when they are able to apply the course materials to their own lives experiences which empowers them to articulate ideas and process concepts that reflect understanding of the materials. My students have ownership of their learing and I support my students by providing encouragement as well as useful feedback on their assignments in a timely manner. I also value the diversity in my students' learning styles and I am committed to promote their knowledge development.

I have taught in the elementary and middle school system for 12 years. My experience includes teaching at many grade levels, including online instruction for elementary students. I have taught inclusion classes and EIP classes, which allowed me to raise the scores of students in those classes tremendously. In 2009, 90% of my third grade students mastered standards on all portions of the Georgia Criterion Referenced Competency Test. In 2010 91% of my fifth grade EIP Reading/ LA class mastered standards on the Georgia Criterion Referenced Competency Test, with 50% coming in at the beginning of the year on second or third grade level.

The teaching style I prefer begins with making each child feel important and presenting the material in a way that everyone understands and feels comfortable. I'm currently enrolled in the Start Smart Early Childhood Subtitute teaching program sponsored though the United Way. This training provides an on hands class stimulation and different teaching methods. It is my goal to make learning fun and rewarding.
I have no teaching experience but I'm in the process of getting my State Of Georgia teaching certification though troops to teachers program sponsor by the Georgia Department of Labor. I also applied and was accepted in the Thomson Learning program teaching ESL in South Korea for one year. I was also employed part time as a GED Test Proctor though Harrisburg Area Community College. I was a male mentor and a member of the Big Brother Program in Harrisburg PA.

It is most important to communicate respect and find natural ways to empower each student so that they feel good about their ability to meet the goals ahead. I encourage critical thinking and often use picture and story associations to improve memory recall. It is important to me that your child is guided to discover the right answer rather than just giving them the answer in efforts to save time. As a result of this teaching style, it appears that I have a strength in helping students prepare for exams and several parents have asked me to home school their children and even volunteered to recruit more parents.
For over 20 years, I have had the opportunity to tutor children, peers and older adults in various subjects including math, English and science as well as guide them at presentation skills, critical thinking and small business solutions. As an undergraduate student, I ... read more
