Psychology Professor/Reading Specialist

Over 25 years of teaching experience (all grade levels ~ from preschool to university graduate level courses). I enjoy tutoring, as it allows me to work one-on-one with a student to best assess their strengths and weaknesses in order to help them reach their goals. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been tutoring for the past 10 years before and after school both privately and group settings. I am a public school teacher now and would like to tutor after school for the 2013-2014 school year. I usually get a student in first grade and the student keeps working with me until third or fourth grade. I use a hands on approach and am especially good with LD and Add students. Progress not perfection

In school I'm often choosen to help other students learn material that they are struggling with. Some things such as history and english come naturally for me so I'm confident that I can help other people learn those subjects as well. I feel comfortable working with all types of students because everyone has potential to be great at any subject they want to as long as they are willing to put in 100 percent!

I have a bachelor's degree in English from Tulane University, and I've also started my teacher certification. While I was in college, I worked in three local charter schools tutoring kids in grades 1-8 in reading, as well as helping them with language arts, math, social studies, and writing skills as needed. I got to take classes on early childhood education in subjects such as children's literacy and classroom management, and I even wrote my own children's book! Lawyer Turned Homeschooling Mom Can Make Learning Fun!

The key to successful teaching is to make it fun!
I have a law degree, but most of my experience comes from working with my own kids and spending hundreds of hours volunteering at their schools helping other children. I home schooled my children for 3 years for the middle school years and so I have experience motivating the surly teen who has no motivation to work as well as the young child that just wants to play. I also taught my children and many others how to read at very young ages and have perfected the technique for teaching children math and reading who love to move.
