A Little Bit About Me...

I have been employed with my internship for approximately 2 years now. The company is called ChAMP (Children Achieving Maximal Potential), I work with autistic children in their homes. I follow the child's treatment plan. I work on daily living skills, personal hygiene, physical activities, practice email, puzzles/games etc.
I like to have a schedule written out so that the child knows what will be expected of him/her that day. I am very organized and like to complete tasks in a timely manner. I like to address all the questions the child may have during a lesson, I try to explain things in several different ways so that child will grasp the concept in a way that makes sense to him/her.

My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : I have simple solutions to keep you focused. ADHD is truly an edge and not a disadvantage when it comes to learning.

While I was a Rotary Exchange Student – South Africa | 1999-2000, I volunteered to tutor students of various ages every subject, except Afrikaans, and was very pleased with their progress, and enjoyed it. I excel in the Arts (Creative, and Graphic), English, Statistics, French, Social Studies, Reading/Writing (especially essay) and would be best for college prep (Highschool ages grades 9-12), as well as Creative Arts for all ages. Please see my profile for everything I feel confident to be at expert level of. I am confident I could dramatically improve any student's writing skills as well as their art abilities.
I adjust to the learner and speak their language, establish rapport through mutual respect, and try and make it as fun as possible.

Special Educator with many hats and minds to utilize.

Since the year 1997, I have worked with many students in Baltimore City and Howard County School system as an aid, reading assistant, substitute teacher for many subject areas including Science, Art, Health, and (long-term) English, High Subject (for all subjects) and a Special Educator that carries with many titles and various needs including transitions, SST, 504, and committees.
I believe that we all learn better one way versus another but it does not negate the many ways of learning as well. As a teacher I believe that everyone wants to learn but many are unable or have not been able to see the connections it has on our lives and that we all have talents and skills that needs support, encouragement or attention. Exploring, memorization, practice, demonstrate in as many ways are all but a few ways to instruct, guide and facilitate.

Learning should never be boring!

I have experience in teaching special education at the elementary and middle school level in Baltimore city public schools for over four years. I also have experience providing tutoring services with the Bell Foundation for under privileged students. During the summer of 2010 through 2012 I have also worked as a Assistant Camp director at St. Vincent Summer camp for homeless children. These experiences have allowed me to work in the field of education on different levels.
I specialize in differentiation of instruction. I like to incorporate different types of projects and assignments to help students learn. I also like to use data to drive instruction and to create a customized learning plan for each particular student.

Individualized Instruction for Unique Learners

16 years of Public School Teaching Experience 15 years of Preschool Education Teacher I taught students with various special needs in a public school system for sixteen years. I left teaching to raise my son and then to raise my step children. I decided to re-enter the world of work and began to work part time in various offices (insurance, real estate, small business, clothing store and landscaping/gardening center) so that I could have the experiences outside of a classroom environment. I decided to work with children and began to pursue a position as a preschool teacher. I have experience working with adults who happen to have various special needs and I have worked with children from kindergarten through high school. My degree in special education has allowed me to be proficient with individualizing instruction and curriculum to meet the needs of each person I tutor. I beli ... read more

Resident Artist and an ASL PRO.

For art, I give direction, let students paint or do art however they want, then I help if needed. I give them pointers and tips for making their pieces better. Art is really how the artist sees it and what they like in the long run. In Sign language, I teach them songs to sign too from the radio and also teach words then becoming sentences. Within a two week period you can learn up to 100 words and a song.
I am a resident artist. I have been an artist for the last 12 years. I have sold my art works in cafes and galleries in cities in: Washington, DC, Chicago, Milwaukee and Virginia. Individualized learning/teaching for optimal comprehension

I started tutoring in my teens helping young children with Autism Spectrum Disorders develop English and Math skills as well as speech therapy and public speaking. I tutored my fellow students while attending Carroll Community College in English 101 and 102 as well as Creative Writing. I then moved on to being a one on one with high school students with special needs in the Baltimore area.
I take a hands on material approach to learning/teaching. I feel that young students learn best when they can physically learn, such as through blocks/puzzles/interactive learning devices and other similar approaches. I try to let the student use their hands as much as I can to aid in their learning process. For older students such as my high school students or their college counterparts I use more direct audial teaching and visual teaching styles. Every person learns differently, so I cater my t ... read more
