A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching for twenty seven years in various grades, schools, and types of classes. I taught for 16 years in a bilingual classroom. My last 11 years of teaching have been in a traditional classroom. I have taught every grade level from 1st to 7th, and currently, I even teach an ESL class after school. My areas of expertise would be writing, English grammar, Spanish, and social sciences. I currently tutor students to prepare for their state tests in May. I feel that my experience has led me to a place where I can say that I am prepared and qualified to teach most students with success.

Having homeschooled my children (eldest is attending a top 20 public university)and volunteering extensively in the school community, I have become familiar with a wide variety of learning styles. My legal background has prepared me for tutoring in that I am able to effectively communicate with the student and present the material in a manner conducive to a learning experience(similar to explaining legalese to a lay person). Above all, I strive to ensure that the student has a true understanding of the materials, as opposed to simple memorization. A Little Bit About Me...

People are always surprised when they find out I'm a math nerd. I'm outgoing, I like to joke and I play sports. But believe it or not, I actually do enjoy math and this is one of the biggest reasons for my success as a tutor/teacher. I don't fake my enthusiasm and this helps engage students. I like to think of myself as fun and I like to make a joke here and there. I believe that a lot of times, less is more when it comes to teaching math. I believe that students can reach their potential if they are given the tools that they need. My job is to be the toolbox for them. As a special education teacher, I adapt my teaching style to meet the needs of the students. I believe that a child should be given a vast amount of positive reinforcement and always be spoken to and taught with respect. I also believe children need boundaries set that will consistently be reinforced. Our job is to teach them those boundaries but to do so with compassion.
