My teaching style approaches the learner with patience and creativity. As an art and writing student, I realize that many kids learn differently, and I try to approach each situation as a unique situation. As a writing consultant what I loved hearing about was when students became more confident and improved to the point of independence. I have a BS in Math with a History minor. I worked about 30 years for Huntington Bank, including 10 years as a main frame computer programmer/manager. I also worked as a senior manager for a national computer outsourcing company and, most recently as an insurance agent, a notary public and the owner/operator of a retail shipping store. I recently relocated to SW Michigan. With the urging of family and friends and a personal desire to be involved in a meaningful activity, I want to resume tutoring students in math. I recalled my difficulties in learning difficult subjects, my difficulties are not universal but I draw from them in finding what is blocking the student from grasping certain concepts. I recall teaching my children at a very early age the concept of ratios. I used windows, tiles from the kitchen, a pizza pie etc. This, before going to pencil and paper and it worked. Till this day they know fractions inside and out because they understood the concept in real life. This is typically my approach, then we can go and do problems in the abstract on paper.
I have a very broad experience in the fields of chemistry and physics. This was attained during my work experience within the Pharmaceutical industry.
