To me, learning is best exemplified by an engaged and interested student asking informed and critical questions of the material assigned. I believe that students are more apt to achieve such education in a relaxed atmosphere. As the instructor, I may know more than the student(s), but this does not necessarily imply that I am the more insightful or intelligent person. Therefore, I encourage my student(s) to question myself and their peers, to not accept history at face value, and to not view historical study as a series of “facts” that are dictated to passive students as “truth.” My role as teacher is that of facilitator; I am there to provide the historical context and skills necessary for generating such critical assessments.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a child I loved to read and write. In High School I took the AP exams for both English Language and English Composition, scoring a 4 and a 5. It was a natural choice for me to major in English when I started my college career. While working on my degree I already knew I wanted to teach, so I began tutoring. I tutored two Korean families over two years, helping the children (ages 9, 12, 14, & 15), with their school subjects, and with their English grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, comprehension, and writing skills. I graduated May 2010, a member of Sigma Tau Delta (an English Honor Society), and Phi Beta Kappa (a national Honor Society), and with the Summa Cum Laude honor.

A Little Bit About Me...

My pre-medical school coursework allowed me to gain conceptual and hands-on understanding in the areas of inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and biology. In addition to my scientific training, I enrolled in the Honors program with a concentration on Western Civilization. The curriculum that the Honors program offered took me through the writings of Homer to the films of Roman Polanski. I have gained extensive experience writing research papers, laboratory reports, book reviews, memoirs, fictional stories, and analytical critiques. During the last three years I have volunteered my time tutoring international students English. My class sizes ranged from 20 students to one-on-one sessions.
