I have taught elementary students for 27 years. I have taught 2nd-4th grades. I have done graduate work in reading and have obtained a reading minor. I have experience teaching students with many different reading processing difficulties. Both in my classroom and in my own tutoring business. I have helped many students become better reader. It is in the summers that I have operated my own tutoring business. Working mostly with children from our Title one reading program. I have also tutored students in math. In my tutoring of students in reading and math, I have assessed each child and from the assessments I have build a program that address the child's needs. Free and unconstrained autobiographical writing is one of the best ways to coax a student insecure about his or her writing skills into putting into words intense experiences from their own life. I tell my students to just tell me in their own words what they are trying to say. When they speak aloud, the words flow, and then I say, "There is your opening sentence right there. Quick! Write it down." At other times, I ask them to pretend that they are really someone else, an actor in a television show, for example, and I have them imagine that the character, not they themselves, are speaking. This releases the student to let go of inhibitions and let the film roll "for the character" and then they stop focusing on themselves. The reason I don't want to teach music in the schools is because all children learn in different ways and at their own pace. I find it easier to work one on one with them so that neither one of us is frustrated. I have tutored children in elementary school with math and reading so I have the experience and patience to work with all ages of children. As far as music goes I have helped fellow peers in high school and college.

I have served as an instrumental music educator under contract for three years; I have been a substitute teacher in public schools for fifteen years. I have taught all grade levels. I have learned extensive grammatical skills due to writing research papers as a graduate student. I have tutuored many students primarily on musical instruments. I love teaching and working with all children. Every child is different in their personalities. I am patient, easy going and considerate. My goal is to provide the best education possible. In addition to my music skills, I also have studied accounting at the local community college, and earned an accounting certificate.
