A Little Bit About Me...

I understand that everyone learns differently. I generally prefer a more hands on approach. I attended a Montessori middle school and found it most effective. However, the goal is find what works best for the student.
I graduated 10th in a high school class of 900. I have a BA in Dance and am currently taking pre physical therapy course work. I teach and train dancers, both in class and one on one. I also teach yoga. When I teach I also am teaching the history of the form, vocabulary, and the anatomy behind it.

Motivated to help struggling students find love of learning

I love to teach and coach and think it is important to understand that everyone learns and grasps concepts in different ways. I do not have a specific teaching style other than positive because each child requires their own approach.
I have over 15 semesters of college courses most in the sciences. As a Junior in college I made the decision to become a teacher. The decision was based on the observation that a majority of teachers are over worked and don't have the time to provide the individual attention some students require. I performed my student teaching at a small school called Central Heights. I taught Physical Education- grades K-8, Physical Education-Freshman Boys, and 3rd Grade-all subjects. My teaching style is a mix of traditional and progressive. Traditional because I believe students need a solid foundation of core knowledge to prepare them for future learning. Progressive, because I believe facts should not only be taught in bits and pieces, but should be put into a meaningful context that the student can understand. My area of concentration is math, which can be hard for some students to grasp because of the way they are taught. Memorizing steps alone does not make sense to most students.
