A Little Bit About Me...

I always remember having a passion for education, for example my favorite game as a child was school where I got to be the teacher. Thus, I thought I had found my niche once I became a certified schoolteacher and secured my first teaching assignment. I was enamored with my students and the learning process. However, my enthusiasm quickly dissipated when the reality of “schooling” was revealed. I no longer felt joy, but heartache at the systemic annihilation of inner-city children. However, one thing inspired me to keep coming to teach, day after day, despite the school’s limited supplies, lack of safety, and irreverence for aesthetics; it was the will and determination of my students. Every class is different, so your approach has to match that class. So, how you teach in one class is nothing as you would teach in another. I try to get the students involved. I try to get them to see the whole picture.
I have been teaching for over 20 years. During those teaching years, I had the opportunity to expand my knowledge in the sciences by attending various fellowships and workshops during the summers. I also had the opportunity to work in industry for 2 years, so I got the experience of that to bring back into the classroom.
