I have two years of experience as a GED tutor, and have graduated 12 students in that time. I have been a computer programmer for 40 years, including 18 years as a freelance programmer. I have dabbled in writing over the years, writing poems, short stores and vignettes. In the past three years I have begun focusing more on writing, and am 2/3 through a novel. At our first session, I ask that each student complete a short quiz to determine their learning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc). Every child learns differently and I believe that discovering what works best for each student is the first step towards success. Once we figure out what his/her learning style is, I cater to this. I think that the greatest skill for one to learn is to be able to seek information that can be synthesized into the answer that is needed.
