I am devoted to the Socratic method. Teaching with leading questions allows my students to formulate within their own minds the connections necessary to grasp the concepts we are addressing. I have a very flexible approach to teaching and am able to adapt to each student's unique learning style. I am familiar with ‘constructivist’ learning and have successfully applied this approach in the classroom with various strategies designed to assist all students in maximizing their learning. I encourage students to actively participate in their own learning, rather than being passive recipients. Students who are disengaged can become engaged when they are in a positive, supportive environment, where their own individual learning style is catered for. Inquiry based learning as opposed to students as passive ‘sponges’, also creates higher levels of student engagement.

A Little Bit About Me...

Although I value my college degree in biology and formal education, my real love for learning and teaching has been honed over the years teaching my own kids at home. I've homeschooled them in every general subject for the last eight years. I have developed a love and knowledge for history, government, the sciences, writing, and mathematics up through algebra. I feel confident in tutoring childen in these topics up through the high school years. I have experience teaching children with attention deficit problems and high energy levels.
