I have been drawing and sketching for 19 years and taught an elementary-middle school art class. Portfolio available upon request of digital, traditional,and acrylic work. I am a highscool graduate and am currently taking college classes. I have tutored many elementary age students in elementary subject areas; especially literature, writing, grammar, art, and music. I have tutored high school age students in music and art. I have also tutored middle school age students in music and art. I prefer one-on-one tutoring in a public area. I am a fun , encouraging tutor in the elementary subject areas; and am enthusiastic about art and music for all ages. I prefer an encouraging approach with lots of rewards and positive feedback; and if things get too rough, I change my style up a bit to accomodate the student's needs.

I am a very motivating person and tend to use humor as a method of teaching. I teach to and with the child and never down to him/her. I break large components into their simplest forms so that a child learns to take things one step at a time and not feel overwhelmed. I make the learning relevant to what the child is interested in or knows about so that he/she can be more engaged in the learning process. We set the goal-a reasonable one yet with high expectations and together we achieve it. For the past ten years, I have been teaching High School English. I have taught grades 9-12 in Literature, Composition and Standards of Learning in preparation for the state exams. I have taught inclusion classes involving students with numerous learning styles and have always met and exceeded the expectations of their parents.

Each student is different, so addressing how best to teach each one will vary. I have found that the key to helping language students learn is first finding what will motivate them to learn. Learning a new language opens up a whole new world to the student, one they have never known before. Building off of a student's extra-curricular interests- sports, music, art, fashion, or anything else- transforms learning a language from repeating verb charts to becoming more apt to pursuing his interests in an international way. Upon graduation from school, I moved to Guatemala, where I was an English teacher to Spanish-speaking students for a year. While there, I was able to work on both my Spanish and teaching skills. I have since been able to help English speakers enhance their Spanish proficiency State-side. I am currently working on my Masters in Counseling.

Visual explanation and simple repetition are the most successful tools to help a child learn. I am patient and calm with students but not afraid of discipline. Before college I was a summer camp counselor for three years and part-time babysitter; jobs that taught me how to work with children. I hope to improve a child's life through improving education. In the past year I have graduated with a double major and passed the Society of Actuaries' Probability exam.
