Science is not the easiest of concepts to grasp so in order to enhance student learning I input a bit of humor into my lesson. I am very good at creating analogies to scientific processes and I have seen positive results from this. My goal is to create student understanding without the typical "memorize and recall" method which I feel is a burden on education and does not promote student learning. I love teaching science and my method is always to make the subject fun and interesting in any way that I can.
After graduating from Central Michigan with a BS in Business, I decided to go back to school to become a science teacher. I will be certified to teach grades 7-12 in Biology and in Chemistry. A Little Bit About Me...

I studied at Kalamazoo college, which was a liberal arts school that encouraged students to take a variety of courses. While, my major and expertise is in Biology, I learned about many different subjects and cultures through study abroad and course work. A majority of my teaching experience is centered around sports, as I played college tennis and have always had a passion for sharing my abilities with kids who want to improve their tennis game. I have taught tennis for 8 years and have taught every age group and level. For German, I studied for several years in both high school and college. My math experience is similar to German.

I have a high regard for the brilliance of children. It is my experience that some children need assistance in recognizing their gifts. I have had a chance to see many intellects blossom and self esteems thrive. Using techniques learned from various levels of education classes teamed with experience, I am able to connect and allow learning to happen. I find great satisfaction in helping enhance the quality of education in the lives of children.
Teaching children has been part of my life for many years, on many levels. I am currently a full time substitute teacher for Ann Arbor Public Schools. At the present time I am working at the University of Michigan as a Research Lab Specialist Lead. Beside research this position enables me to interact with students and teach them the biologic basic skills. I am challenged to be creative, nurturing and most of all, patient. During my Ph.D. program I had the opportunity to teach at the European classes (ERASMUS)for college students. This position allowed me to teach to students from all over the world. through my teaching career I have had numerous workshops and professional Development in all areas in education. I have been able to combine different teaching strategies to fit the needs of my students. In Arizona I taught Fourth Grade where 80% of my studens were English Language Learners of Hispanic decent. This was a real leaning experience. I took the Dibels training which really helped my teaching techniques. Using Orton-Guillingham guidelines with the hundreds of hours of teacher training allowed my students to excel.
