I am a Special Education teacher of thirty years. I have certifications in Learning Disabilities as well as an English certification for the Middle school level. I have experience in the general education, self contained, and Inclusion classroom settings.I have a special ability to pinpoint learning problems and understand how students learn best. I especially enjoy teaching students that are unable to read and have specific training in the area of decoding the written word.
I am patient, kind and like to make learning fun. Positive reinforcement and praise can never be enough.Students learn best when they feel good about themselves and learning.

The key is to listen to the child, find out what areas of interest they have and build on that. I have never encountered a child who did not want to read about their area of interests. I am a very motivating person and tend to use humor as a method of teaching. I teach to and with the child and never down to him/her. I break large components into their simplest forms so that a child learns to take things one step at a time and not feel overwhelmed. I make the learning relevant to what the child is interested in or knows about so that he/she can be more engaged in the learning process. We set the goal-a reasonable one yet with high expectations and together we achieve it.
For the past ten years, I have been teaching High School English. I have taught grades 9-12 in Literature, Composition and Standards of Learning in preparation for the state exams. I have taught inclusion classes involving students with numerous learning styles and have always met and exceeded the expectations of their parents.

I feel as though every child can achieve the impossible, and with the help of someone giving them the attention that they deserve and need, they will feel better about themselves as well.
