In addition, I have learned extensive health and grammatical skills due to writing research papers and laboratory reports, along with essays in many various areas of study. A Little Bit About Me...

I'd rather not use the trite statement- 'I love teaching', as true as it is. I enjoy communicating with people and I like to observe the fascinating way in which each individual thinks differently. I suppose this is what has drawn me towards teaching. That and the fact that I can be instrumental in helping someone with something that helps in learning, for all involved. I teach using different methods, based on how each student's style of understanding.
My Undergraduate studies involved extensive study Art history and my Masters Diploma in Textiles helped me a lot in research studies.I also won a scholarship to study Strategic Design in Milan. While I was an undergraduate, volunteering was very important to me. One of the places I volunteered was an after school program for children who live in Hamilton Hill. While I volunteered there I helped many of them with there homework as well as extra reading and writing to help improve those skills. I found that my psychology major as well as my education and english minors were very useful and helpful to help tutor in all subjects.
I love working with children. I was involved in girl scouts from first grade all the way to 12th grade and in those years I learned a lot of leadership skills. I am very patient and want to provide education to anyone that needs it. When I was in school I often struggled with school work, so I learned many different techniques to learn how to learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

I began teaching as a college sophomore at MIT. For 9 years, I taught primarily Multivariable Calculus, but also single-variable Calculus, Linear Algebra, and several writing courses. Since graduating, I have been involved in various volunteer tutoring efforts. My minors are in Math, German, and Writing. I happen to be a black female, the first to earn bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in Mechanical Engineering at MIT. I am happy to work with anyone, but I might be a particularly meaningful match for a minority or female student. In addition to tutoring, I would hope to serve as a "can-do" example for someone who might not have dared to dream big enough.
I believe in the "practice makes perfect" approach, especially when it comes to math, science, and language study. That said, I also believe that practice can be interesting, fun, encouraging and reinforcing. I would hop ... read more

I have been supervising other counselors since 1997 in their report-writing. I take pride in my writing skills in the face of a field riddled with nurses who prefer abbreviations to beautifully executed coherent sentences. The sheer eloquence of being able to deliver a report allowing the reader to infer the true meaning of your words, while not providing any statements that will give fuel to a legal representative is a time-earned skill. In addition to my writing skills, I have 14 years of business skills, extensive analytical skills, which transfer into expertise in geometry, and of course 20 years of experience as a counselor.
I teach the way I counsel--by expecting self-responsibility. I use humor to enhance one's motivation to seek out and focus on one's strengths. I am not a coddler--I believe that higher expectations result in higher performance. When coupled with e ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As I read the example noted below, I hear an echo, YES, I too love to teach. I see myself as a mentor. Listening and watching how people learn, what they need to know and formulate the best way to establish a program to achieve their goals. Each individual possesses their way of learning that may be derived from their environment, culture, family or a combination. Whenever possible I try to use diverse medias to experience topics from various views stressing constant feedback to assure comprehension is taking place. Helping individuals advance to the next step by learning is my passion. My mantra is Inquire, Inspire, Educate.

I love tutoring and working with children to young adults. The internet provides a lot of information but the joy of going to the library to discover new worlds, knowledge or just for the fun of it is still a worthwhile venture. I have tutored students who truly abhored reading but when we read about New York City and took them to the places of interest we studied and it truly got them excited about the next book. My methods are varied but consistent. I teach outdoors weather permitting on field trips and with themes to keep the child interested and wanting to read and learn.

Having graduated as an artist who expanded to art and elementary education I come from a diversified background. I have taught in the public, private and home schooled sectors. Being an accomplished artist and teacher I enjoy combining the two aspects of my abilities to create and foster the love of learning in individuals.
I believe all children are creative and eager to learn. I enjoy the challenge of unlocking the avenue to their learning style. All children can succeed if given the tools for their personal style. As an educator I consider this my primary task. All learning comes naturally from that point on with effort and guidance. My strong points are patience, understanding, creativity, and life long learning as an adult. I think the last point is extremely important as a tool for modeling the younger generations.
