I have a BS degree in Interdisciplinary Natural Science and a Minor in Public Health. I worked for USF Housing and Residential Education. I also was a Peer Leader for Chemistry where I was basically a Teaching Assistant and led two sections by myself.
I like the child to feel comfortable with me to where they are at ease and readily ask questions. I prefer to ask the student leading questions to aide them in coming to the conclusion on their own as opposed to simply telling them information. I think relating a topic in a practical and applied approach helps many students retain and apply the information they have learned. I would aid as an assistant tutor in many of my undergraduate classes and help lead study groups before test. I would also review the test in a post test study group to help people understand why they did not fully understand the question either how it was worded or if they just completely missed the question all together but ultimately help prepare for a midterm or final. Since my mother is a high school science teacher I would also go into her classroom and help her in the classroom and lab to be able to help provide the students more one on one attention and elaborate and simplify some of the material that was being taught.
I believe that you have to be very hands on and provide more than one style of teaching. One needs to be able to teach for the visual and auditory sensory by being able to provide visuals but then also to describe the material in multiple ways.
