I first started to study music when I was 11 years old. I grew a love for the clarinet and played for many years in middle school and high school. In college, I majored in clarinet and also studied all wind/percussion instruments as well as piano. I obtained my BA instrumental teaching degree (K-12) through Western Carolina University in June of 2003. Through the years, I have had the privilage and pleasure of teaching band in a classroom setting, marching band, and private lessons. The reason I became a teacher was to transfer my love of music to my students and also to see the joy of their successes. There is nothing like seeing the smile of success on a students face. I care greatly for all students that I have taught and will teach.

I truly enjoy my teaching profession. The moment when a student who has been struggling for understanding starts to put all the information together and applies it is "priceless". My teaching style always includes getting to know and understand the "learning style" of the student or students. If the initial technique does not work then I will keep trying different methods to present the material until the student and I agree that the subject has been mastered. I have earned my graduate certificate in Accounting and a bachelors in Business. I have always loved teaching. While attending high school, I helped assist with adult education classes at night. I am very patient with a child when it comes to learning. Some children learn differently than other children. Sometimes I would take each problem one step at a time. As a Paine College student, I do some substitute teaching to have some experience with teaching students a variety of mathematics and other subjects.
