Everyone has style of teaching that is unique. Mine is at first appearance very laid back, but on closer inspection is very powerful and extremely effective in the long run. My strategy as a teacher is to study and assess a student first, then to develop a plan with the student regarding how we should approach a task or problem. I am patient yet firm. My personal background in mathematics was fairly rigorous, so I always make my students show their work. As the subject material gets tougher, it becomes more critical to be able to check all stages of one's work. One of my math teachers gave me some sage advice: "Math teachers are lazy. We find the quickest and shortest route to a solution." I've taken this tongue-in-cheek wisdom to heart in my own way.
