My comments on tutoring Biology : Completed 5 basic biology courses while in college

Most all of my experience in life has been in business, Corporate America. However, I have always been a teacher at heart. I spent several years as a student tutor while I was attending college, both in the classroom and during my online courses. I have instructed many of my fellow employees while on the job. Most of this instruction has come in the form of teaching new job responsibilities to seasoned employees, as well as teaching new employees the basics of their jobs.
I believe that a student should have the time to figure things out on their own, but with guidance from their tutor or teacher. I think I should provide a student with all the tools they need, and then through example I will teach a student to figure things out for themselves. There is no other way that I know of to quickly build the confidence of a student and the belief in one's self, than to teach a student how ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a lover of learning. My love for learning has certainly attributed to my working my way through a Masters of Arts in Teaching. My enthusiasm for helping others to learn has been most heightened; however, through my experience working with students. I have worked in multiple roles at the elementary school level through collegiate level. Every position I have worked in I have loved because of the students. Each person has their own learning needs and own challenges. I love being a part of working through those challenges and finding understanding and success.
I find that teaching is as much about getting to know each person, finding there strengths and weaknesses and using those to benefit them in their process of understanding. I like to come up with creative approaches that will suit each individual's strengths for learning. I know that one on one attention, support and encour ... read more

I have learned that teaching is the activity of educating or instructing. It is the process of imparting knowledge or skill. It's about not only motivating students to learn, but teaching them how to learn, and doing so in a manner that is relevant, meaningful, and memorable. Teaching is about caring for your craft, having a passion for it, and conveying that passion to everyone, most importantly to your students. A teacher is a person, who educates others. A Good teacher will listen, question, is responsive and remembers that each student and each class is different.

My teaching style has evolved throughout the years, especially depending on the type of student, but has always included plenty of preparation and making sure I know how to work through each question properly in order to explain from more than one angle how to answer. Having worked with children for many years in versatile environments, I have learned that every child has a unique way of learning. One may need visual representation, while another comprehends better via audio learning. Some children retain more information through hands-on activities while it is easier for another to read the material. Whatever the case may be, I revise my methods to better suit the needs of each child. Our future is dependent on the children of today. With patience and instruction, their potential can shine through.
Working towards my B.S. in environmental studies I had the opportunity to work as a high school tutor in mathematics and science.
