Helping students learn and learn how to grow

I like students to be comfortable, enjoy their experiences with me as much as possible, and learn not only the material they need to study, but also habits and practices that will help them with future studies.
My teaching experience is broad across subjects and age levels. Learning and teaching excite me and I like to think that attitude rubs off on my students. It can be fun to learn, and even those subjects a student does not find enjoyable, can prove satisfying. I've taught middle school and high school, as well as at Bellevue College, Renton technical College, and North Seattle Community College. My own experiences include not just teaching, but also professional broadcasting, journalism (both broadcast and print newswriting, creative writing, editing, and reporting), writing a book, supervising employees as well as students, and poetry awards.

More About This Tutor...

For as long as I can remember I have loved to learn. Through college I tutored in psychology, english, the arts, statistical math, and certain classifications of sciences. My favorites were psychology and english because of the freedom you can give due to interpretaional material.
As a psychology major I was fascinated with how the mind works in all arenas. I learned the various methodologies used in teaching people and found in my tutoring that finding a way to present even the most difficult material in a manner to make it understandable is greatly satisfying. Through tutoring and teaching others I gained a higher comprehension of the material at hand and learned more about both myself and people in general. I firmly believe that there's no such thing as an idea or topic that can not be taught to someone who wants to learn regardless of academic leveling.

Both my children were born with developmental delays. I aggressively researched the public law requiring an appropriate education for all and was involved in assuring so. I am very familiar with learning differences and have great patience in dealing with others.

I have 13 years experience in manufacturing: capital budgeting and appropriations requests, energy reduction, quality improvements, scheduling and raw material ordering. A Little Bit About Me...

In the past I have worked with students both one and one and within a group setting, and feel comfortable adapting to any particular group or individual's needs. I believe effective teachers must compose a delicate balance of meticulous discipline and natural concern. The best teachers and professors of my academic career were not only intelligent, but carried a contagious passion for what they studied. I would like to think my teaching style is the same.
In college I volunteer tutored at the Crawford Country READ center to a pupil struggling with reading comprehension, writing and mathematics. In addition to this, during my senior year at Allegheny College I was a teaching assistant for a Research Design and Statistics I and II course. With nearly a lifetime of teaching youth and adult learners, I have focused on teaching computer skills in the more recent period of my career. Other subject proficiencies include psychology, sociology, math-statistics, history, physics and library skills.
I taught to engage the audio, visual and kinesthetic capabilities of each student in the learning process.
