As a student, I was very driven to achieve a high level of excellence and by doing so I received a 3.9 G.P.A. in my Masters program. Also, during my time in my Masters program, I was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi and Kappa Delta Pi. My Masters is in Education with my specialization area being mathematics. Moreover, I have teaching licenses in North Carolina and Illinois that cover grades K-9 with middle school endorsements in mathematics, social studies, and language arts. I also have a BS in Psychology with a minor in mathematical studies. I began my college career admitted at age 17 to a competitive Bachelor of Nursing program at Boise State University. I took courses in Science, Math, Chemistry, Psychology and Health before I transferred to Brigham Young University-Idaho to pursue Horticulture. BYU-I has one of the top Horticulture programs in the country (as recognized by PLANET). I competed for BYU-I as one of the front most students in 2 years of PLANET competitions. I personally finished twelfth of all 900 students competing and helped take our team to both a 1st and 2nd place finish. I also worked as a tutor for the horticulture department assisting college students in courses such as Landscape Design, Bidding and Estimating and Computer Programs. I'm passionate about making a difference in the lives of others. Age isn't a factor in this pursuit, for no matter what age we can still have an impact. Building trust and rapport with students is vital. Being positive and uplifting is critical to the learning of students that are discouraged and have met with way too much negativity in their usual learning environments. Teaching/tutoring lower level reading and writing skills is what I have excelled in the most but am able to help students at higher levels. These levels are not age specific. This two titles let me to work in 6 different school in wich I had devoloped a high standar curriculum in each area of the Math field. My last experince in the classroom was with a drop out students program in wich I helped giving that second opportunity to students that in some cases no one believe in; to graduate fron high school. I have taught for nearly thirty years in colleges and public schools. Thus, I have taught adults and children. At present, I teach Adult Basic Education on a part-time basis for Central Carolina Community College and I substitute for Harnett County Schools when time will allow. I co-authored a book in 2003, and I have published several articles.
