A Little Bit About Me...

The summer I was a camp counselor I knew that I wanted to make a difference in children's lives. At that point, I decided to complete my BS in Kinesiology and then pursue an MA in Education. Upon graduation, I was employed by Detroit Public Schools teaching low income, bilingual children. I have predominantly taught second grade but have also tutored and taught summer school to first and third graders. I also received certification in Accelerated Reader and Accelerated Math programs.
The key to educating children is to instill in them a lifelong passion for learning. Every day I try to do that with my students. Although, they come into my class with a lot of "baggage" from home and challenges with being bilingual I build their confidence through specific praise. I have worked in education at the community college level for several years. I worked as an English Tutor for four years at Washtenaw Community College before being asked to join the part-time teaching staff. My class load consisted mostly of Composition I and Technical Writing classes; occasionally I would substitute for Literature courses when needed. In addition to my educational experience, I also have corporate experience working as a Technical Writer/Documentation Specialist in companies such as: EDS, GM, and Consumer Energy.
