I ascribe to Gardner's 8 Stages of Intelligence theory, which purports the belief that every student is gifted, intelligent and capable of learning in a manner that conducive to their own unique style. As a teacher, I use myself as a tool to help facilitate the learning process.
I have a social work background which, in my work has always been integrated with some component of teaching, both in and out of the classroom. I can teach most K-12 subjects, college prep courses and provide tutoring services including assessment and curriculum development. I tend to be rather versatile in my teaching methods as I adapt to the learning style of the student. It's what I have found most effective in improving the quality of their educational experience. I have always loved teaching. I never had a desire to divert from teaching and become a counselor or an administrator. I have taught students from kindergarten to community college. I do not have a certification in math but I have taught k-8 math in special education classes and in mainstream classes through inclusion. I am familiar with many hands-on techniques and with drawing and writing explanations of the operation that was practiced. I have taught middle school science, social studies, health and Spanish classes. I am able to support the second language learner as well as the special needs learner. Here is Some Good Information About Florida Writes Tutoring

The Florida Writing Assessment was implemented in grades 4, 8, and 10 as required by a law passed by the 1990 legislature. Does your student need a tutor? Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible. Additionally, beginning in 2010, each student within the same grade level was required to write an essay using the same mode of writing (narrative, expository, or persuasive).
