As an adjunct faculty instructor at the University of North Alabama, I teach students in a public speaking course through a series of class lectures, individual and group activities, live performances, examinations, and out of class assignments. Using my undergraduate degree in accounting, I have 10 years work experience as an internal auditor and a computer accounting staff accountant for three CPA firms. I have an additional number of years of work experience as a mid-level manager of computer programmers and web developers. I have most recently been tutoring students working toward GED certification at a local adult education center. My teaching, tutoring, style emphasizes flexibility. While there are specific learning units that should be taught and retained by the student, the flexibility of the teacher, or tutor, will assist the learning experience for the student. I first and foremost believe that every child can learn, and I refuse to entertain any idea that says otherwise. I have found that a constructivist approach works best for most children, and I will always try this approach first. I try to make learning as hands on and relevant to the real world as possible. I am preparing to graduate in the spring of 2011 from Mississippi State University with a special education degree. I am a stickler for proper sentence structure, grammar, and spelling; I believe that a command of written English can open doors in life which appeared previously to be intractably sealed, and can create either employment or advancement opportunities which might not otherwise have been possible. An obvious example is how a well-written resume and cover letter will many times make all the difference in whether or not you find yourself in front of the interviewer.
