I can adapt my teaching style to auditory, visual or hands-on type learning. I try to create a relaxed and fun (silly for the little ones) atmosphere where learning will be fun and memorable, because I believe that if you enjoy it - you'll remember it. All students will be given a pre-test prior to instruction so that I can decern if the students problem is one of cognative development or simply gaps in the learning process. What was expected of them was a mixture of hard work, discipline, sacrifice, and success. Patients is a amazing thing to have when trying to teach. Many students learn at a different pace and I feel that finding that pace for every student is important. If you try to cram or learn something to quickly it only become heartache and bad grades.
In College I would form groups to try and study for upcoming test or exams. Doing this it really helped me to learn what I was studying and how other people learn as well.

I love tutoring because it gives me the ablility to individualize each students program so it fits their learning style. If a students doesn't understand a concept when I explain it, I use other ways (other explanations and manipulatives) to help the student understand. I am patient and understand each student is unique and their program should be unique to them.
I graduated from Ball State University with a major in Elementary Education. I love working with the younger students in a classroom setting but realized I missed working with older students. I started tutoring at Sylvan at the high school level in math. After a year I became the Assistant Director of Education and comtinued to tutor in the evenings. Teaching is one of the most satisfying things I have ever done. I believe that everybody can learn, you just have to find the right teaching method for that individual. There are only a hand full of methods to choose from, they include: hands on, visual, reading, hearing or some unique blend of these. These are not the only methods, but these would cover most individuals. While I was teaching I would explain the material how I understood it. If that did not work it forced me to back up and come at it from a different angle. A Little Bit About Me...

I began tutoring in high school then in college, I majored in mathematics to pursue a career in teaching. My career took another direction yet I continued my passion for teaching others through tutoring at local non-profits. Last year, I taught 8th grade math at a local public middle school.
