A Little Bit About Me...

As a student, I am driven to understand the nature of things. As a teacher, I work to help others understand them. From my experience, I have learned to be patient with people who are afraid of failure and to push students who are easily bored with basic work. I have earned a bachelor's degree in computer science because computers are the tool with the most potential to enable us to understand the world, second only to the mind. To this end, I encourage my students to think long and hard about the problem they want to solve before they put too much work on a false lead. I find that the better students are aware of this and struggling students become more enthusiastic about learning after they discover this.
I am a graduate of Chico State with a BS in Computer Science and I was a student of their honors program. I was not a formal tutor, but I spent a lot of time with junior clas ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I worked for over 2 years as a study session leader for various engineering courses while getting my B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. I also tutored several students in engineering classes at the college level. I have experience working with elementary through high school students as well.
I have a passion for helping people, and nothing satifies me more than helping a person understand a concept and succeed in his or her class. I teach using a lot of examples and incorporating the concepts into the example problems so that the student can see how the examples are based on the concepts. I strive to know the students well so they don't just see me as a tutor but also as a friend who is easily approachable with questions.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a love of learning and understanding that extends to math and science. This gives me an enthusiasm for my subjects that my students have said makes me a more engaging and enjoyable teacher. I also understand that learning a new subject requires a firm foundation to build upon, and so I continually reinforce the basics and previous material while I work my way up in a subject.

A Little Bit About Me...

Every student has a unique skill level and learning style, and I believe tutoring is an opportunity for me to help that student learn in his or her own unique way. I believe an engaged student will get the most out of tutoring, so I like to ask questions to check for understanding and I try to make the subject more interesting by highlighting the significance of what he or she is studying. One technique I often use is making summaries of concepts and procedures that the student can refer to when answering similar problems in homework or reviewing before a test. I love to teach. I am easy going, patient, and I am dedicated to helping students reach their full potential.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am patient, have a good sense of humor, and strive to help students achieve to their ability. I have great faith in children's ability to develop proficiency in any content as long as they have adequate support. One size does not fit all in education and I use differentiation and different teaching modalities, with a lot of realia and manipulatives, to meet the students' learning styles and preferences, and the content area. I rely on colleagues for assistance when I am unable to fully help a child.
As an Adult Education teacher I taught learners from High School age through 70 year-olds. I taught office occupations; ESL; and GED, ABS, HS diploma and citizenship.
