ADD/ADHD is one of my top subjects! I use a variety of techniques to engage students and make learning fun and interactive. I also understand that students learn differently. One of the first things I will do is determine how a student learns best so I can adapt my teaching to fit that student's needs.

I believe I have the skills set and passion needed to successfully tutor a variety of students. I have a Specialist degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment and I am a certified teacher with a master’s in Special Education. I currently teach adults studying for their GED. I also taught a self-contained, city-wide program in the District of Columbia Public School system for four years for students with multiple disabilities. Both settings have made me very familiar with all of the core subjects, including Math, English, Science, and Social Studies. Not every method works for every child; with one exception, patience. I demonstrate and exemplify patience. If a child feels as though they are in an atmosphere where they are safe, free of ridicule and bias, then they are willing to perform. This process can be a give take scenario however. So, some flexibility is required as well, but eventually the student will become more comfortable with themselves and confident in what they are capable of.

With a Bachelor degree in Chemistry my educational background is very strong in Math and Science. I have spent the last fifteen years in the high school environment helping students in all areas of their academic day. I feel very current with all standardized testing that has been thrown my way as I have assisted with administering SATs and Pa Assessments at our local Pennsylvania high school, and helped students in their prep for these tests.

When I first attended college I studied elementary education. I put my education on hold to stay at home and raise my children. During that time I was a compulsive volunteer with different support groups within the school system. I decided to complete my education as my children got older and received my bachelors degree and continued to take classes so that I am now able to sit for my CPA and I have also completed the necessary undergraduate requirement in order to teach business classes.
