If you have knowledge, let others light their candles at it.

I worked as a elementary teacher in Romania for about 13 years. I used to work differentiate and with a combination of classes. From the training I received, I learned methodics, how to teach math, science, physical education, arts, and develop other skills. I am patient and know child psychology. Don't want to substitute parents who have a great role in child development, I want to become the help and the friend of the kid, the friend who brings an alternative and new ideas in developing and performance.
Good teaching is about listening, questioning, being responsive, and remembering that each student and class is different. At the same time, it's about being human, respecting others, and being professional at all times.

I am a recent neuroscience graduate at Michigan State University and have quite a broad background in science so I would be able to help in many of the fields that I have listed for that as I have taken some advanced courses in that field. I also have experience working in tutoring centers and tutoring at my high school when I was part of the National Honor Society, in which I was more focused on math tutoring. A Little Bit About Me...

I have had many experiences in education both during and after my college education. I have been put into many situations that have required using much of the curriculum content, classroom management, and lesson plan developing skills that I have acquired. I have a major in science, but I also have extensive mathematical skills due to the many math classes I have taken for my BS and while currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Accounting. I have had the opportunity to tutor students in math, science, reading, writing, and social studies.
I truly believe that as an educator you must establish a connection with your students. This not only builds a great relationship, but also helps to develop a real understanding of your students and develop the best way to teach them through differentiation and accomodations. I have learned over the years that you can't teach all students in ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I worked in the Math Department, as either a tutor or a Teaching Assistant, for the past three years. As a Teaching Assistant I led a 50 minute recitation of the material, graded materials, and kept records for my 30 students. As a tutor I helped MSU undergraduates learn key concepts and study for their upcoming exams. I worked in the Algebra room and the Calc I room. I helped out a little in the Calc II room, but I never had time, as a full time student myself, to review the material and refresh my memory, so I was much less helpful than I should have been.
I love teaching because I love passing on knowledge. I believe anyone can learn anything they want, it just takes us all different lengths of time and effort to achieve our educational goals. As a tutor and a TA I was always trying to rethink my presentation of the material when the students seemed confused. We all think abou ... read more

I have a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters in Engineering Management. I have had high level mathematics classes in my Bachelors. I love Mathematics since I was a child. I have been teaching Math since 4 years to a lot of under grad. kids after school hours.
I have a lot of patience in making the kids understand the fundamental concepts which are very important for higher levels. I am very flexible when it comes to helping the kids. I have seen that when I tutor, my students feel very comfortable with me to ask questions through which I clearly know what areas they need more help. My goal is to build very strong fundamentals which give a lot of confidence and ease in understanding higher levels of Math. I am available everyday after 5P.M. and weekends.

A Little Bit About Me...

Everyone learns through seeing, demonstrations, examples, and practicing. If one demonstration or examples won't work, a second or third demonstration or example is needed and it may have to demonstrate differently. I'm very patient when it comes to teaching. I'm good at being creative about finding ways to teach someone so that he or she can understand.
Everything starts out with passion. My passion is to help others when they are in need. When it comes to math and other subjects, I'm very capable. I graduated high school as a Salutorian and graduated college with a Magna Cum Laude.

More About This Tutor...

I graduated from Calvin College in 2007 with a Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics. My experience in tutoring ranges from fourth grade math to calculus and college level math. I have tutored in formal settings with set schedules as well as impromptu homework and study sessions. All of my tutoring experience is in mathematics.
Since every student learns differently, I find that the best teaching style is to explain concepts in multiple formats, whether oral explanations, diagrams and pictures, real-life examples, or algebraic formulas. Students can learn through practice, memorization, concepts, or a combination, and I have learned to adapt my teaching approach into what works the best for the individual student.

A Little Bit About Me...

A student does not benefit from having their teacher do their work. I find that modeling a concept once or twice suffices. After that, a student is best served by having their teacher guide their mental processes so that they become accustomed to the mode of thinking that either results in the correct answer (in a quantitative subject) or a strong, well-reasoned argument (in a qualitative one). Such guidance must be based on the individual student's interests and aptitudes.
In the past four years as an undergraduate, I tutored in virtually every area of my expertise: English, creative writing, mathematics, and physics. As a tutor in math and physics, I helped students understand both the theoretical concepts and the practical applications that they needed in order to thoroughly grasp the subject. In English and creative writing, I served as an editor on every scale, from helping st ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

During the past 5 years I have been a substitute teacher for Kentwood Public Schools and Excel Charter School in both elementary and high school classes. This experience has given me insight into what I feel is necessary for students to prepare for the future i.e college, skilled labor, technology etc. I have administered tests to evaluate pupil progress and issue reports to parents to discuss student progress and any problems that may exist.
Students that I have tutored/mentored have become very successful in their life after graduation from H.S./College. I know that if a child can read, and understand what they read, they can be successful in life. That is my first priorty in the education of a student.
