A Little Bit About Me...

I have been tutoring for both adults and adolescents for over five years in a variety of fields. My comments on tutoring Special Education : While attaining my undergraduate degree, I had the wonderful opportunity to work at a daycare for over 3 years. I worked with children ages 6 weeks to 12 years. Several of the children that I worked with were delayed learners or had learning disabilities. I have also transliterated and interpreted for children and adults with a variety of physical and learning disabilities.

When it comes to language, I believe that people tend to learn best by doing. I also believe wholeheartedly that successfully learning a language depends on your exposure to that language. Continuous exposure to any language can help language acquisition. For English, regardless of what specifically the student is struggling with, consistent reading and writing practice is key. With a manual language like ASL, practicing signing skills and receptive skills is invaluable. Finally, I believe that people learn better when their strengths are pointed out and highlighted rather than their weaknesses. Many students who struggle in school are caught in a perpetual cycle of perceived failures. Optimism, unwavering support, and excitement are key when working with any student.
I have always had a passion for learning. Part of my passion includes helping others learn, grow, and succe ... read more

I have a holistic, eclectic style of Teaching. When I work with any student,or students, I always determine what proficient level they are at.If they are having any problems grasping the subject, I must do diagnostic testing to remediate at progress from that point forward. When the student has reached a level of proficiency,he or she may move on to whatever subect,or level that pertains to. Yes, each student is unique and can reach their full potential under the right guidance encouragement, and support. Yet, I firmly believe that all students must master the fundamentals, no matter what subject.

Tutoring for YOU with compassion and excellence

I work with students on their level, and then assist students to build skills at the next level. I work to match my instructional style so that it corresponds to the student's learning style and comfort level. Moreover, it is important to relate new information to something that is familiar to the student; this is also how I help students to learn.
I have taught a variety of subjects, and I have worked individuals from elementary school through college. I am currently working with Rochester Educational Opportunity Center as a part time instructor. In addition to this, I teach as a volunteer math tutor to adults who are preparing to their GED and TABE exams.
