I have a rare gift of being able to impart practical examples of academic principles. In one experience with a former student I explained calculus in a way that she could relate the rate of change to a physical experience in a way that it came alive. When principles are understood in a practical and physical manner students are bound to to have a solid understanding of the fundamentals and are better able to both retain and build upon them. Many times students find a disconnect between academics and often question whether what they learn can benefit them in the future. Once in a classroom I realized that I was meant to teach. I love working with students who are challenging and those who challenge me. I believe that I can become a better teacher only by continually challenging myself and my students. The key phrase “engaging students” seems less than what is required in the classroom. I want my students to be engaged but I want them to encompass and enjoy what they are doing as well. I love technology and new method topics; I have a very strong math and science background as well as excellent written and verbal presentation skills. I believe in a pretty simple rule; repeat, repeat, repeat. Learning math and physics through example is the best way. Repeating these examples is a sure way to success. They student may not like math or physics, but once they start to do well in it they'll come to love it.
During my studies at SUNY Buffalo I tutored in Regents Math which I also took when I was in high school. In Virginia Tech I was a Graduate Research Assistant. I ran Aerospace Engineering labs, assigning work to undergraduate students which I graded. I was available for multiple hours per week assisting students in their homework and lab reports. Since then I have been a math tutor in calculus. Engineering requires a solid understanding of math from the basics such as algebra and geometry to more difficult calculus and linear algebra.
