A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching children of all ages, particularly on a one-to-one basis. In addition, I learn from the children. I believe a child learns best through individual attention and the opportunity to have those "aha" moments. People of all ages can meet and exceed their potential. My experience with tutoring children is that we have made a difference in each other's lives.
As one who received a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology, I've always loved education. With corporate background I have excellent grammatical and communication skills. In the corporations in which I worked, I wrote training manuals and trained and counseled managers and supervisors. During the past 8 years I have tutored students in math, psychology, spatial orientation, writing and reading. I also work with the Feurstein MLE program.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very interactive in the Socratic method. I act as a guide for teaching much as a catalyst for learning. The emphasis in all of my classes is in communication skills and building character. As college prep classes are structured to teach note taking and research and writing skills.
I hold a Doctorate degree in Jurisprudence and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Oklahoma City University. I have five years middle and high school teaching experience with Rocky Mountain International Academy in Montrose, Colorado. I believe that if a student doesn't understand what is being taught, part of the fault lies in the way the information is being presented. Most standard classroom settings do not provide the type of learning environment many students need, and I believe this is the root cause of their struggle with the subject matter, not the subject matter itself and certainly not the student. I am very good at explaining concepts in many different ways and work patiently and at the student's own pace. Frustration with the subject and/or the teacher only makes the learning process more difficult, so I try to keep the learning fun and tap into the student's own interests and experience in order to make the subject accessible.
