While attaining a BS in Mathematics at Penn State University, I was heavily involved in peer tutoring. For two semesters I spent 10-20 hours per week working one-on-one with students struggling or seeking a higher level of success in courses ranging from pre-algebra to calculus 2. I belief that conceptual understanding is the foundation of learning. Teaching kids to solve a specific problem that they can't do doesn't accomplish much, in my opinion. Going back to the concept and helping them really understand what is going on, either physically or mathematically, will not only help them with the problem they have, but give them a basis for future knowledge.
