My comments on tutoring Jazz Dancing : two years training, one year of competitive jazz dancing.

I have tutored many young students throughout my life, and have been tutored myself. I do find it easier to work with younger children; however, I am capable of assisting those of high school or college age students who are struggling. I have helped young children learn how to read, write, count, and tell time on an analog clock. Though I do not have strictly professional tutoring experience (I have never been paid for my services) I know how to identify student's learning style(s) and work with them a way that they will benefit from. I believe that children and adult education is extremely important, and I can also assist those of any age who would like to learn to read and write.

My philosophy focuses on the development across five dimensions of learning: confidence and independence, knowledge and understanding, skills and strategies, the ability to use prior and emerging experience in new situations, and reflectiveness - the ability to think deeply and critically. I provide students with more experiences to working independently and interactively. It is essential to coordinate the students' inherent drive for self-determination, academic goals, and engaging activities that represents student achievement and performance. My practice is to create an environment that is highly collaborative, project-based, resource-rich, challenging, and equitable.

Before introducing my teaching style with the student, I first make a detailed observation on where they are at in the subject. I review their stong points and weaknesses. For Intance, If they have pronounciation issues or trouble understanding vocabulary, I will focus my attention to that before moving on to any new or next step. I like to review what was learned last session before starting the new session so it stays fresh in their minds. Patience is most definately a must and knowing that there is a no "one size fits all" approach allows me to be creative in my teaching style for each and every student.

I am a huge advocate for the theory of multiple intelligences. I believe every child is capable, its just a matter of figuring out how they process information. Academic success is just one measure of growth, but whole learning is what I consider true success and I believe when the whole child is taught that academic success will invariably follow. I am Queen Patience and Queen enthusiasm. It's almost impossible not to get excited and energized when I'm around and involved. Most importantly, I teach people more than a subject, I teach them how to learn, and that is what a lifetime of success needs.

I am a firm believer that everyone is capable of achieving their educational goals as long as the proper resources are provided. I am a dedicated individual that seeks different methods to assist my student in learning the material at hand. I create and modify my teaching style to fit the student's need in order to accomplish the set goal. I believe that everyone has different styles of learning and therefore it requires a sensible yet discipline tutor to accomplish this.

Teaching is something that one must have a genuine passion for in order to excel in the profession. While in college, I tutored students for the city of Riverside during as after-school program. While in the program as a lead tutor I was able to get hand on experience in teaching. I was also able to implement fun and exciting exercises for the students to engage in while completing lessons. After completing my bachelor’s degree, I continued to teach as a substitute for the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools for two years. The district is unique because they serve specifically children with cognitive developmental problems, such as autism. While teaching I have learned several techniques when dealing with special needs children and patience is the key to getting the students to cooperate effectively and learn the material. With this group of students, I incorporated a more ha ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe any child has the ability to do anything in the world if they are given the opportunity and necessary skills. Many times educators falter because they have been teaching so long that they forget a student’s mindset is different. I believe that a great educator will listen to the needs and strengths of the student directly from the student to help detect what is preventing the student from completely mastering a particular skill. This is why I incorporate all learning styles into my teaching not for the purpose of being redundant but to allocate the best learning style and expose the student to other undiscovered learning styles. My goal is to provide the best education experience for our future leaders.

I have worked at the Santa Ana School District for eight years. I have supervised our tutoring department and also tutored students during those eight years. Prior to working at Santa Ana School District, I volunteered and tutored students in Algebra. I am currently enrolled in college to complete my Bachelor's degree. I feel that my education is an asset and will be complimentary to any tutoring program.
I try to use something that the student can relate to. I try to start with the basics and work up to find out where the student might be needing help. I am patient and enjoy knowing that I can help someone excel. Education has always been important to me and I look forward to encouraging that same attitude in others. I would like to give back to the community and I truly get enjoyment from helping others.

I am a very one on one type of person. I want to make sure the child understands on their level of thinking, which might mean using what they use on a daily basis to explain clearer. Depending on the age of the child and what subject that needs to be taught will depend on which way I will attack the situation.

I love to work and teach children everything I know in a particular subject. I think all children can learn but each in different ways. For me, I'm dedicated to not only help them to learn but also promote my own teaching style. In other words, I'm here to learn as well and my students. I'm very generous, kind, patient, and willing to help my students to decipher or clarify anything they find confusing. Of course, I'm here to provide the best education that I can provide for not only my students, but also for those who loved me. If anyone has the desire to learn, I know that he will become a successful person in life.

Learning to teach at age sixteen taught allowed me to develop my teaching style into a mature and planned method. I have taught dance classes, summer camps, and tutoring sessions. The diversity of the teaching subjects gave me insight into how students learn various material and how, for an individual group or student, a teaching style must be molded. I am an astute tutor who listens to the needs of her students and can be both patient and encouraging, varying my style in response to the needs of those I am with. Paying such close attention to my students responses I have guided many students on the path to success through the means they deemed for me to work for them.

My first two years of college I was a math major. I took classes through Calculus III until I decided to pursue my dance minor as a major. Math and dance have always been my two greatest interests. Math has always been my strongest subject in school, it just made sense to me. My favorite has always been Algebra. In high school I would tutor my friends at the dance studio in Algebra and was paid to tutor a freshman girl at her house after school. In college, I actually tutored a 40-year-old woman who needed help passing her algebra class in order to finish her college degree. I tutored her weekly for at least a year. Still to this day I enjoy helping my students with math at the high school I now teach P.E./Dance full-time.
I have always enjoyed teaching others especially when it came to math. I naturally and enthusiastically interact with people. I believe all people can ... read more
